On the Distant Horizon

A Gaither Homecoming Best of the Booth Brothers CD is coming January 24th. Ernie Haase & Signature Sound is releasing a live DVD and accompanying CD, Oh What a Savior, on February 4. Interestingly, that will be a Gaither Music Group release, not a Stow Town release.

Is this list missing anything significant, especially among major independent releases? Let us know in the comments!

  1. I’m confused—the Booth Brothers already have a Best Of CD/DVD project with Gaither…

    • Yes, and the cover looks awfully familiar.

      • It appears that the CD is the audio rendition of the DVD that was released last year. Originally, the Booth Brothers recorded a “Tribute to Bill Gaither” and released THAT alongside the “Best of” DVD. Gaither is now simply releasing the audio tracks from the DVD in January, since they were not previously released.

      • Ah; that makes sense. Thanks!

      • Okay, now I’m REALLY confused, cuz I bought the CD/DVD combo pack and the CD certainly did have the tracks from the DVD!

      • GVFAN, I agree. I bought the same package. I use the DVD at home and the CD in the car.

  2. Wait, so the next release by EH&SS is not by Stow Town? That’s odd.

    • That struck me as odd, too.

    • Maybe this is going to be a “Best of …” similar to the “Best of Booth…” from all the joint appearances of EH&SS with GVB / Gaither Homecoming series. You know Bill’s got every second recorded in triplicate. :-)

  3. Is there going to be a DVD of the Cathedrals Family Reunion?

  4. Reading about Signature Sound’s release “Oh What a Savior” as a Gaither Group release, it made me remember of some coincidences (or not) in the recent past of the Gaither Group, more especially the Voca Band. In 2000, the song “Something To Say”, of the album I Do Believe (2000), was recorded without Mark Lowry’s vocals, having only David Phelps, Guy Penrod and Bill Gaither, and then a little later he announced his departure. In the album Everything Good (2002), they recorded “O Love That Will Not Let Me Go” in a beautiful a cappella arrangement written by David Phelps, and in the following year they released an A Cappella album (which is one of my favorites of the genre) entirely arranged and produced by David Phelps. Also, in the album Give It Away (2006), Ernie Haase & Signature Sound makes a special participation on the last song, Give It Away, and then in 2007 they released an entire album as a collab with EHSS and GVB. Last, but not least, this year the Gaither Group announced that Mark Lowry wouldn’t be performing with the Vocal Band in 2014, and then a little later they confirm that Mark would be leaving the group. And now this release of EHSS with the Gaither Group… Hmm… Well, am I just going crazy with it, or there’s a pattern being created here?

    • Well, Mark Lowry not performing with the GVB all of next year is approximately equivalent to leaving the group. Also, they only sent out one announcement; it’s just that the website changes the week before the announcement did indicate that the announcement was on its way.

  5. I thought that Skyline Boys would have a Crossroads release in November . . . .

    • Well, they don’t have a Crossroads release this month; that much I know. Their website doesn’t seem to list any new releases this month, but then it’s rather out of date, with the graphic design and the bios areas having photos/bios of two members who have been gone for some time. Perhaps they are selling a new release at live shows, but if so, it doesn’t seem to be available anywhere online.

      • Our web site is in major need of updating. We realize that and are working to remedy it as quickly as we can. Our personnel was in a bit of disarray until recently so that’s why the web site is so out of date. Our new project is not yet available. We anticipate it being available by the end of the month but that depends on the graphics. It will be worth the wait I promise you. I am so proud of the music we recorded and the performances are awesome!! Thanks for the question Diana and I hope this clears up some of the confusion.

      • Ok, thanks so much for the update. Do you have a title and tentative release date yet? If so, I would love to include it in the post.

  6. Southern Raised and Red Roots both have new CDS coming out the first part of the year according to their Facebook pages.

    • Canton Junction said they would be announcing some exciting news on Twitter a few minutes ago. I wonder if it will be a new Album!

  7. I wonder when EHSS will release the DVD with the live performance on Glorious Day? I’m very excited to see it!

  8. Will there be a review of oh what a savior & Christmas live on here

  9. Do u have Facebook or Twitter or FaceTime or iMessage

  10. Why dous the oh what a savior have two heavenly parade

    • It could be merely a reprise, or maybe its classic footage or something…
